A daily covenant

The Seven Sacred Promises

Seven commitments through which service, patience, love, meditation and honest self-examination are brought into daily life.

The promises

Seven commitments for daily life

The Sacred Promises are not presented as abstract statements. They place the teaching within service to Absolute Beingness and the Divine Plan, the right use of thought and word, patient endurance, love for fellow human beings, daily meditation and nightly self-examination.

  1. First Promise: To serve at all times and in all places Absolute Beingness to whom I wholeheartedly belong.
  2. Second Promise: To be ready at all times and in all places to serve the Divine Plan.
  3. Third Promise: To make good use of the Divine Gifts of thought and word at all times, in all places and under all circumstances.
  4. Fourth Promise: To endure patiently, without complaining, all forms of trials and tribulation which the most wise Divine Law may bestow upon me.
  5. Fifth Promise: To love and serve my fellow human beings sincerely from the depths of my heart and Soul, no matter what their behaviour may be towards me.
  6. Sixth Promise: To meditate and contemplate daily Absolute Beingness, with the objective of coordinating thoughts, desires, words and actions with Its Divine Will.
  7. Seventh Promise: To investigate and check every night whether thoughts, desires, words and actions are in harmony with the Divine Law.

The Seventh Promise

From promise to introspection

The Seventh Promise connects directly with introspection. It invites us to take events and problems from daily life, examine their causes, usefulness and effects, and learn to observe them as impartially as possible rather than immediately defending or condemning the Present-day Personality.

This makes nightly self-examination a practical work of self-knowledge.
