Who Was Daskalos?

The life and legacy of Dr. Stylianos Atteshlis and The Researchers of Truth system he created.

Dr. Stylianos Atteshlis (1912-1995)

Our Teacher

Dr. Stylianos Atteshlis (1912-1995), known as Daskalos (Greek for “teacher”), was born in Cyprus. From an early age, he demonstrated remarkable spiritual gifts, including the ability to heal and recall his past incarnations.

Despite his extraordinary abilities, Daskalos led a relatively normal external life. He worked as a civil servant and raised a family, while dedicating his free time to teaching and healing. He never charged for his spiritual work, seeing it as his duty to share his knowledge freely with those who sought it.

Daskalos gained international recognition when Kyriacos Markides, a professor of sociology at the University of Maine, wrote a series of books about him, including “The Magus of Strovolos” which introduced his teachings to a wider audience.

The Researchers of Truth

Daskalos founded “The Researchers of Truth,” a system of spiritual development that combines elements of esoteric Christianity, Eastern philosophy, and ancient wisdom traditions. The name reflects his emphasis on direct experience and understanding of truth rather than blind belief.

The Researchers of Truth system includes specific practices for meditation, healing, self-observation, and the development of consciousness. It offers a comprehensive cosmology that explains the nature of reality and the human being’s place within it.

While drawing from various spiritual traditions, Daskalos taught in a way that was accessible and relevant to modern people, regardless of their religious background. His emphasis was on practical application and direct experience rather than theory.

Core Teachings

Daskalos’ teachings cover a wide range of spiritual knowledge, but some of the core concepts include:

  • The Three Bodies: Humans have physical, psychical, and noetical bodies that operate in different dimensions of existence.
  • Holy Monad: Each person has a divine core or “Holy Monad” that is their true self, beyond personality.
  • Elementals: Thoughts, emotions, and desires create living entities called “elementals” that affect our lives and others.
  • Karma and Reincarnation: The soul evolves through multiple lifetimes, learning from experiences and balancing karmic conditions.
  • Self-Knowledge: Understanding oneself deeply is essential for spiritual growth and awakening.

Legacy

Although Daskalos passed away in 1995, his teachings continue to inspire and guide people worldwide. The Researchers of Truth circles he established continue their work in various countries, and his books and recorded talks preserve his wisdom for future generations.

Daskalos’s daughter, Panayiota Theotoki Atteshli, along with his grandson, Stylianos Atteshlis Papakyriacou, possesses all the intellectual property rights to Daskalos’s works and the Researchers of Truth System globally, including but not limited to the rights related to his books and writings. Their committed efforts help safeguard the purity of these teachings, preserving them with the highest integrity for future generations.

“The purpose of life is to know yourself, and through knowing yourself to know God.”

Concerning Erevna

There has been much misunderstanding on the relationship of Daskalos, the teachings of the Researchers of Truth and the Cyprus based organization calling itself Erevna. Contrary to what has been written in Markides’ book, Fire In The Heart, there is no relationship between Daskalos and the Erevna as you can see below.

“Please be advised that our System has no affiliation to a Cyprus-based organization known as the Erevna. We only wish the best for all efforts engaged in refining the consciousness of humanity. Furthermore, I wish you to know that I have disassociated myself from Mr. Markides.

I ask each of you to work with the Teachings and each other as Brother and Sister Researchers together on a path towards greater conscious engagement in the Divine Plan. A Master is not a Master by name but by word and deed. We need not rely on so-called Masters when life itself is the most complete and faithful teacher.

I bless each of you and the good work you are doing.
With eternal love,
Dr. Stylianos Atteshlis”
