Foundational teaching
A careful first introduction to the connected terms used in the teaching, beginning with clear distinctions and their relationships.
The teaching uses several connected terms for the human being, but they are not interchangeable. The material body is related to its Etheric Double. The Present-day Personality is the current expression of self-awareness in an incarnation, while the Permanent Personality describes continuity across experience. The teaching also distinguishes Material, Psychical and Noetical Permanent Atoms.
Individuality (Soul) and Spirit-Ego-Self will be introduced gradually in their proper relationship to these foundational terms.
The Etheric Double is described as the etheric counterpart or mould of the material body. It is related to, but not identical with, the Material Permanent Atom.
The current time-and-place expression of self-awareness must be distinguished from the continuing Permanent Personality.
The teaching distinguishes Material, Psychical and Noetical Permanent Atoms and connects them with the record of experience.
